"Two can play at this game." ~ Raistlin to Raistlin

(In case you don't get the quadruple meaning, one is red robe Raistlin and the other black robe Raistlin who is Master of Past and Present and can see all time at once)

I would like to author a Dragonlance novel that has Earth's people roleplaying Krynn who are roleplaying Krynn because that's what the people of Krynn are doing, roleplaying roleplayers of Earth called The Fourth Wall.

Who's to say that's not happening? So, what came first the dragon or the egg?
The cozy warmth of the Inn of the Last Home enveloped the group of friends like an old, familiar blanket. The fire crackled merrily in the hearth, and the scent of Otik’s famous spiced potatoes wafted through the air. As the Heroes of the Lance sat around their usual table, the evening took an unexpected turn when Tasslehoff Burrfoot posed a peculiar question.

"What came first, the dragon or the egg?" Tas asked, his eyes wide with curiosity as he munched on a piece of bread.

Flint Fireforge grumbled from his seat, setting down his mug of ale with a thud. "Bah! What kind of nonsense is that, Tas? Everyone knows dragons were created by the gods. The egg came later."

"Actually, Flint," interjected Tanis Half-Elven, leaning forward with a thoughtful expression, "if you consider the cycle of life, it makes sense that the egg could have come first. Dragons lay eggs, after all."

Caramon Majere, ever eager to join the debate, leaned back in his chair, grinning. "But if there were no dragons to lay the eggs in the first place, how could there be eggs?"

"I suppose it’s possible that dragons simply appeared, fully formed, by magic," mused Goldmoon, her serene voice adding a touch of calm to the heated discussion.

"That’s preposterous," Sturm Brightblade scoffed, his sense of knightly logic offended by the idea. "Dragons are creatures of legend, yes, but they must follow the natural order of things. The egg came first."

Tika Waylan, setting down a tray of drinks she had been carrying, couldn’t resist chiming in. "Maybe they both appeared at the same time! Magic can do anything, right?"

Raistlin Majere, who had been quietly observing the debate with a knowing smile, finally spoke. His voice was soft but carried an air of finality. "I can see all time as Master of Past and Present, and it’s beyond me."

The group fell silent for a moment, contemplating the enigmatic wizard’s words. Then, unexpectedly, laughter erupted around the table. The tension dissipated, replaced by the camaraderie they all cherished.

"Alright, alright," Tas said, still chuckling. "Let’s just imagine what it would be like if we were from another world, like, oh, I don’t know... Earth! What would they think about dragons and eggs?"

"I bet they’d have endless debates, just like us," Tanis replied, grinning.

"Maybe they’d write stories about it," Tika suggested. "They’d probably have whole books just trying to figure it out."

"And argue about it on some sort of magical devices," added Caramon, trying to sound wise.

Raistlin’s eyes sparkled with rare amusement. "Indeed, they would. Perhaps they would find it as amusing as we do."

As laughter filled the Inn of the Last Home once more, the Heroes of the Lance continued their night, secure in the warmth of friendship and the shared joys of their adventures, whether in Krynn or in the imagined realms beyond rolling D&D dice in the Earth roleplaying game roleplaying Earth's roleplayers.

"It's a question of who is imagining who and what we imagine being what we are imagining because it imagines what we are imagining."

    Chapter 1: Earthbound Adventures

The next evening, the Heroes of the Lance found themselves gathered around a roaring campfire, the flickering flames casting long shadows and illuminating their faces. They had decided to indulge in a bit of whimsical role-playing, with Raistlin Majere at the helm as Dungeon Master. Tonight, their imaginations would venture into a strange and foreign realm—Earth.

Raistlin sat at the center, his golden eyes gleaming with mischief. He spread a crudely drawn map before him, filled with exotic locales like "New York," "Paris," and "Tokyo." The others leaned in, intrigued by the unusual setting.

"Welcome, adventurers," Raistlin began, his voice a whisper that commanded attention. "Tonight, you shall embark on a journey in a world unlike any other. A world where magic is but a myth and technology reigns supreme. A world called Earth."

Tasslehoff Burrfoot’s eyes sparkled with excitement. "What kind of characters can we be, Raistlin?"

"You may choose to be any kind of human you wish," Raistlin replied. "You could be a scientist, a warrior, a healer, or even a rogue."

"I’ll be a warrior," announced Caramon, grinning broadly. "I’ll be a… a "soldier," I think they call it on Earth."

Goldmoon smiled, placing a hand on Caramon’s arm. "I will be a healer, a ‘doctor.’"

Sturm Brightblade frowned thoughtfully. "I shall be a 'police officer,' upholding justice in this strange land."

"I’ll be a thief," Tasslehoff declared with glee, “just like in real life! But I’ll call myself a 'private investigator"—that sounds fun."

Tika giggled. "I’ll be a 'chef.' Someone has to keep you all fed!"

Tanis Half-Elven chuckled, playing along. "I’ll be a 'teacher,' guiding young minds."

Flint Fireforge snorted. "I suppose I’ll be an 'engineer,' fixing all these strange machines."

Raistlin nodded approvingly. "Very well. Let us begin."

As Raistlin wove his tale, the Heroes of the Lance found themselves navigating the bustling streets of a city called "New York." The air was filled with the sounds of honking horns and chatter, and the skyline was dominated by towering buildings made of steel and glass.

"Your mission,” Raistlin intoned, "is to find and stop a rogue inventor who has created a device that could destroy the world. His name is Dr. Ignatius Von Doom."

Caramon, in his role as the soldier, led the way. "Let’s find this Dr. Doom and put an end to his plans!"

Goldmoon, as the doctor, examined a map. "According to this, his lab is in a place called 'Brooklyn.'"

Sturm, the police officer, nodded. "We should proceed with caution. Who knows what dangers lurk in this city?"

Tasslehoff, the private investigator, bounded ahead. "Don’t worry! I’ll scout the area."

As they played, the group couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of their roles and the strange world they were exploring. They broke character frequently, teasing each other and making jokes.

"Can you imagine?" Tasslehoff said between giggles, "A world without dragons or magic? How boring!"

"I’m not sure I could fix any of these machines," Flint admitted, shaking his head. "Too many buttons and wires."

Tanis smiled. "It’s fascinating to think about, though. A world so different from ours."

Raistlin, though usually the most serious of the group, allowed himself a rare smile. "It is indeed a curious exercise in imagination. Even I find it intriguing to ponder a world where the arcane is but a legend."

As the night wore on, their role-playing session continued, filled with laughter and camaraderie. The Heroes of the Lance, united by their adventures and friendship, found joy in exploring this fantastical Earth, even if only in their imaginations.

When the campfire finally died down, and the game came to an end, Raistlin closed his makeshift book with a soft thud. "And so concludes your adventure in the world called Earth. Perhaps one day, our descendants will ponder the mysteries of Krynn in a similar fashion."

The group chuckled at the thought, settling down to sleep with smiles on their faces. They were heroes in their own world, but for one night, they had journeyed to Earth, and it had been an adventure they would not soon forget.
